Taking Fishing to the Next Level

Thor is taking fishing to the next level this year. While he has been fishing several times over the past few years, this year he began learning more about the process that comes after the catch. He is learning about and how to identify the various species of fish in our area as well as how to clean and prepare them to eat.

it is up to you

Right now the world just seems off.
We are socially distanced with sickness and death all around.
Mixed messages, injustice, and instability are causing strife.
Bad news, financial woes, health scares, and worry abound.
Tension, confusion, and fear are so thick you could cut it with a knife.

I do not have the answers.
I surely lack the security clearance to call up the president, the governor, or even the mayors.
I do not have the expertise, education, or knowledge to begin to create a solution for a disease.
I lack the experience to give you any stock market advice.
I doubt I have the words to put your fears at ease.

But I can offer you a few words of encouragement. A few thoughts to help you through another day.
A prayer for you and for all as we face uncertain and unprecedented times. Rarely knowing what to say.

If we live long enough we will face tough times and will enjoy great moments. If we live long enough the worst of humankind into our memories will be burned. If we live long enough we will also see the best that life has to offer. If we live long enough our kids will see how we overcome adversity and we will be able to teach our grandkids the lessons that we learned.

Some of it is good. Some of it is bad. Most of it ‘is what it is’ as they say.
Most of it is neutral. Most of it could go either way.
All depending on where you are standing. All depending on your attitude you took.
All depending on how you want to see it. All depending upon your outlook.

But rest assured, none of it is new. In many cases there is not much we can do.

We scream and holler. Some riot and cause a ruckus. We could rant and rave.
We can sit and observe shaking our head in disbelief or disgust. Or we can stand up choosing to be brave.

In the conclusion of the matter, the one thing that we can do, is to do what we can do.
To be present with our family and teach them to love unconditionally.
To hold them tight, to say ‘I love you’ as we tuck them in at night.
To not just say the right things but to stand up to the wrong doings that life often brings.
To remain calm and solid as the rock in the storm. Never moving and being there to set the new norm.
There is nothing new under the sun. All there is to do, is do what we know must be done.

To own what we can and let go, what is out of our control.
To make the best of every situation.
To make the most of every occasion.
To be grateful for every blessing.
To cherish every moment passing.

Be the example that you need. Be the example they need.
Be the change you need to see. Be who you need to be.

To do more than run your mouth. Do more than talk.
Lead the way, take action. It is time to walk the walk.

Most around us is out of our control. Most of the world is out of our hands.
Stress and worry can take their toil. Be intentional and do what you can.

I will make a difference today. I will make the world around me a better place.
Be a change where you are. Make life better and put a smile on someones face.
I will leave it better by doing what I can do.
Today do what you can because that is up to you.

– Praying for you, Brooks

Corduroy the Bear’s Weekend with Thor

As part of Thor’s class, each child gets to bring Corduroy the Bear home for a weekend.
Along with Corduroy comes several books telling of some of Corduroy’s adventures.

While Corduroy may only be a little stuffed bear a weekend can provide some great value. When Thor was given the opportunity to bring Corduroy home we used it as more than just a teddy bear.

We emphasize responsibility, proper care of other’s things, and how to share and teach others about the things we enjoy.
