Make Time First

God made time!

God made time first. Before all of creation, God made time!

“Let there be light”, and there was light. God saw that the light was good. He separated the light from the darkness. And God called the light day, and the darkness he called night. And there was evening and there was a morning: one day.

Genesis 1:3-5

The first thing God did was make time. Yet time is the last thing that we make.
We often give excuses and find real noble reasons why we don’t have time.

“I don’t have time.”

“Real busy.”

“Have a full day”

When the truth of the matter is “I do not make time.”

We all too often get busy doing and do not make time to live.
We do not make time for ourself.
Jesus made time for himself and his apostles. In Mark 6 the apostles were busy serving others and were not even eating. So Jesus told them to get into a boat and head toward a remote place. In the boat on the water, they could breathe. They could rest a moment. Get a bite to eat and maybe even take a nap.

Jesus himself would often get away. Numerous times we read that he would get up early before everyone else and go out to a deserted place. Jesus would go up on the mountain to be alone. Here he could breathe. He could rest. He could have the silence needed to pray.
Alone and away from the pressure and noise of the busy world, Jesus could talk with God. He could tell God what was going on, sharing his thoughts, doubts, and fears. Giving thanks and showing gratitude for all.
And there in the silent solitude of the wilderness, the still small voice of God can be heard.

Make time for you!

Get up a few minutes early before all others. Get up and enjoy a moment of silence.
Spend time in the wilderness away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Talk with God. Share your thoughts with God. Tell God about your doubts and fears. Share your dreams and goals with God. Give thanks and gratitude for everything.

Make time to sit there in the silence and listen.

Make time to listen for the whisper.

Make time and be silent.

Make time and there you will hear God.

Who is Tougher?

We boast about how tough we are.
We enjoy watching movies of tough guys doing tough things.
We challenge ourself mentally and physically to test our intestinal fortitude.

No matter how tough we are, someone is tougher. Someone will always be tougher.
No matter how much I challenge myself, no matter how hard I push, no matter what obstacles I overcome, I know that there is at least one that is tougher than me.
That someone is my wife. The mother of my children.

Being a mother is no small feat. It requires balance, strength, endurance, and a toughness that is unsurpassed.
The simple act of taking care of me and raising my offspring is hard and tiring, but she makes it look easy. And then does all the other stuff that she needs to do for her business and to take care of herself.
And before that, she has the superpower to create life and carry my offspring around for 10 months before giving birth. And let’s face it, if we men had to give birth, no one would have more than one kid if any at all.

The old saying “Behind every good man is a great woman” is true. No matter what we achieve in life, with a great woman by our side we will achieve more and be more than we could have ever imagined.

Thank you to all the mothers out there! The tough mothers that help boys become men and make men be better men.
Happy Mothers Day!!

Gotta lead em son

“You gotta lead em son” my dad said after I missed yet another dove.

My first dove hunt and the birds were flying good. Although I had shot several times, I had not connected with a bird.

Dad gave me a few pointers and then as a bird appeared from out of nowhere, he pulled up his shotgun and took aim. He fired one shot and I saw the dove come crashing down. I watched how he shot in front of the bird and hit it.

Soon I got another shot at a bird. I put the bead right on the bird and then dad reminded me “Lead him”. I then moved my aim just ahead of the bird and squeezed the trigger. The bird did a flip and fell in the field.

I was elated as dad congratulated me.

And so it is in life. With most of the things we aim at, we must lead it. Leading our aim just a little as life is always moving. Life never sits still. We are aiming at a moving target.

We are either getting better or falling behind. Like the doves of the field nothing ever sits still. They fly east to west, then dart up, then dive down, then swing back to the south, then surprise us with a loopy loop to fly back west.

Relationships are dynamically moving and evolving.

Our kids are growing, learning, and changing daily.

Our spiritual journey is ever evolving as we study and grow closer to becoming who GOD created us to be.

As we grow and overcome the obstacle that is in our path, we become stronger and ready for the next obstacle. It is an ever progressing challenge.

So today as you take aim at the doves darting through the field, remember that just as in life, “You gotta lead em, son”.

Teach me to do your will, for You are my God; let Your Spirit lead me. – Psalm 143:10
