2020 was crazy, to say the least, but we ended it on a great note with an amazing Christmas. We were blessed to be able to spend some time in Columbia, TN. We went a few times including Columbia’s First Fridays. We decked out in our Ugly Christmas attire and enjoyed some local shopping and treats.
Today’s guest is larger than life. Daniel McKim is a husband, father, and outdoorsman. He is a Highland Games World Champion and the world record holder for the hammer throw. From his funny Instagram post to the weight he lifts, to the life he leads as a husband and father, Dan is an amazing and inspiring man. I had known of him through the magical world of the interwebs. But when we met at a National Strength and Conditioning Coaches meeting, standing at 6’5’ and a solid 300 pounds, he was hard to miss. We talk about training as a professional athlete with a family while working a full-time job for Sorinex and still finding the time and ways to get in the wilderness. Along with great training advice, he gives some great insights into getting kids involved in exercise and the outdoors.

When we think of Jesus, especially this time of year, our mind drifts to words like peace and joy and happiness. That’s great, but far from what Jesus said it would be.
Jesus never promised an easy peaceful life. We are promised peace and joy and sorrow with no more sorrow and no more sadness – someday. But not today.
Jesus tells his closest friends and followers that he did not come to bring peace but division.
Division is not bad.
Division is necessary.
Division is needed.
Division separates us from our sin. We are separated from the evil that binds us up and keeps us from living the abundant and full life we are promised with Christ. We are divided away from the sin that will keep us from that eternal home in heaven.
And that is where it gets tough.
When we decide to follow Christ, we put our sin away. We leave the dark and walk in the light. We think that it will be a peaceful walk but it is not. The walk gets tougher. The walk gets harder.
As you leave the evil behind, the evil one will pull out every dirty trick to trip you up. The pull into the darkness is strong. Obstacles, barriers, and all sorts of temptations will be thrown in our path. All to distract us and lead us back into the dark.
Where life feels easy.
Where we live in the here and now.
In the darkness, we do not see that the path is leading us to a painful and traumatic ending.
No, Jesus did not come so that we would have peace in this carnal sin-filled world.
He came to divide us from the evil. To separate us from this sinful world.
Jesus came to give us a path to eternal peace.
We will struggle.
We must overcome obstacles.
We will have challenges to conquer.
In the light we can see where we are going.
In the light we can see the future.
In the light we see we are on the path to eternal peace in Heaven.
During this time of year, as we think of peace, do not be discouraged when it doesn’t seem peaceful. Do not let the moments of stress and trouble pull you down. Do not let the distractions lead you into the darkness.
Know who’s you are.
Know why you are doing it.
Know where you are going.
Know when times are tough that you are getting better and stronger.
Know how sweet the peace will be on the other side of the struggle.
It ain’t easy. But it will be worth it!
Do you think that I came here to bring peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.Luke 12:51
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”
Be prepared. Arm yourself.
Do what is needed to be ready.
Ready to stand.
Ready to face evil.
Not tucking tail. Not running. Not hiding because you’re not ready. No excuses needed.
Being prepared for anything and everything that may come attack us.
No matter what come our way. No matter how we are attached. No matter what trouble comes. No matter what obstacles we must overcome.
When we put on the armor and prepare ourself, then we can stand firm. We can stand in the face of all that may come at us.
Do you have your armor on?
Are you ready for battle?
You better be, because the battle is coming!!
