Jesus and his apostles were walking to Capernaum. On the road, they began talking and discussing amongst themselves. The discussion soon grew to an argument.
Once they got to their destination and settled down Jesus asked: “What were you arguing about on the way?”
The apostles were silent. They did not want to admit that they had been arguing who among them was the greatest.
Walking along with Jesus and they are arguing over who is the best.
Imagine sitting down with a few friends for dinner. But we have been placed at a table full of Hall of Famers. And then we start talking about that time we got a hit during a JV scrimmage.
Pretty ridiculous.
Not at all impressive.
The apostles are walking with Jesus and arguing over who is the greatest. Walk with the greatest and arguing who is the greatest.
When Jesus asked “What were you arguing about?”, he already knew.
Mark 9:33-35
He simply stated, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last and servant to all.”
Instead of thinking about how we can be the greatest.
Instead of looking at how others can raise us up.
Instead of worrying about how we can look good.
Instead of being concerned about what others think.
Lead by serving others.
Be great by humbling.
Get better by staying hungry.
Do what is needed.
Do it when it is needed.
Do it even when we don’t feel like it.
That is greatness.
Serving others.
Doing the tough stuff.
Doing what is needed.
Don’t argue. Do.
Stay humble.
Stay hungry.
Be a man of action.
What are you arguing about?
What can you do today to serve instead of looking for others to lift you up?
“Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.”
Marcus Aurelius
