God made time!
God made time first. Before all of creation, God made time!
“Let there be light”, and there was light. God saw that the light was good. He separated the light from the darkness. And God called the light day, and the darkness he called night. And there was evening and there was a morning: one day.
Genesis 1:3-5
The first thing God did was make time. Yet time is the last thing that we make.
We often give excuses and find real noble reasons why we don’t have time.
“I don’t have time.”
“Real busy.”
“Have a full day”
When the truth of the matter is “I do not make time.”
We all too often get busy doing and do not make time to live.
We do not make time for ourself.
Jesus made time for himself and his apostles. In Mark 6 the apostles were busy serving others and were not even eating. So Jesus told them to get into a boat and head toward a remote place. In the boat on the water, they could breathe. They could rest a moment. Get a bite to eat and maybe even take a nap.
Jesus himself would often get away. Numerous times we read that he would get up early before everyone else and go out to a deserted place. Jesus would go up on the mountain to be alone. Here he could breathe. He could rest. He could have the silence needed to pray.
Alone and away from the pressure and noise of the busy world, Jesus could talk with God. He could tell God what was going on, sharing his thoughts, doubts, and fears. Giving thanks and showing gratitude for all.
And there in the silent solitude of the wilderness, the still small voice of God can be heard.
Make time for you!
Get up a few minutes early before all others. Get up and enjoy a moment of silence.
Spend time in the wilderness away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Talk with God. Share your thoughts with God. Tell God about your doubts and fears. Share your dreams and goals with God. Give thanks and gratitude for everything.
