“You gotta lead em son” my dad said after I missed yet another dove.
My first dove hunt and the birds were flying good. Although I had shot
Dad gave me a few pointers and then as a bird appeared from out of nowhere, he pulled up his shotgun and took aim. He fired one shot and I saw the dove come crashing down. I watched how he shot in front of the bird and hit it.
Soon I got another shot at a bird. I put the bead right on the bird and then dad reminded me “Lead him”. I then moved my aim just ahead of the bird and squeezed the trigger. The bird did a flip and fell in the field.
I was elated as dad congratulated me.
And so it is in life. With most of the things we aim at, we must lead it. Leading our aim just a little as life is always moving. Life never sits still. We are aiming at a moving target.
We are either getting better or falling behind. Like the doves of the field nothing ever sits still. They fly east to west, then dart up, then dive down, then swing back to the south, then surprise us with a loopy loop to fly back west.
Relationships are dynamically moving and evolving.
Our kids are growing, learning, and changing daily.
Our spiritual journey is ever evolving as we study and grow closer to becoming who GOD created us to be.
As we grow and overcome the obstacle that is in our path, we become stronger and ready for the next obstacle. It is an ever progressing challenge.
So today as you take aim at the doves darting through the field, remember that just as in life, “You gotta lead em, son”.
Teach me to do your will, for You are my God; let Your Spirit lead me. – Psalm 143:10
